However, after outplaying the Manchester club at Anfield in their last encounter, it looks as if it may be slim pickings for the Merseyside club with United wary of the threat that Liverpool pose.
Indeed, fans here in the Tavern are open to the prospect of taking some players off the hands of their bitter rivals, especially due to the strength in depth that they possess in attacking areas.
Of course, with United having a net spend of well over one hundred million in the summer months, they’ll be looking to offload any fringe players to make up for having the 2nd highest Premier League net spend in the last transfer window.
Nevertheless, with Manchester United having a couple of players that Liverpool have taken an interest to in the past, here’s a look at TWO United outcasts who Liverpool should look to bring to Anfield in January.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan
Henrik Mkhitaryan was sublime during his Borussia Dortmund days with some believing he had the ability to become one of the world’s best. But since joining Manchester United he’s struggled to recreate any of this form, especially in this current campaign.
Indeed, Jose Mourinho has been unforgiving this season after leaving him out of the side for an extended period, with other players being given the chance.
Yet, with a player that possesses pace, trickery, skills and the ability to create and finish, he’d be a quality addition to the Premier League’s most dangerous attack.
Liverpool came very close to signing the Armenian prior to his move to Manchester, so for a player that Jurgen Klopp is very fond of he’ll fit right in.
Luke Shaw
Luke Shaw hasn’t enjoyed the best of times at Old Trafford after spending 94 games of his United career out through injury, meaning that it’s been impossible for him to force a way into a settled United back-four.
However, with Liverpool currently suffering from Alberto Moreno being out on the sidelines through injury, this could leave a possible vacancy for the England international with Klopp seemingly only playing Andy Robertson if required.
After taking Nathaniel Clyne, Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren and Sadio Mane off Southampton’s hands already, surely Luke Shaw must have been the one that got away for this Liverpool side.
Nevertheless, with it being revealed that Jurgen Klopp made the move for Luke Shaw before he went and purchased Andy Robertson, perhaps it’s not too late to go back for the left-back.
