As always in this January transfer window many players are linked all over the place and our Arsenal fans inside the Transfer Tavern are not too sure how to take the latest one. Indeed, Henrikh Mkhitaryan is being linked with a move to Arsenal should Alexis Sanchez go the other way this month and it may be a very good move for the Armenian, who seems out of favour at Old Trafford in recent months following another dip in form.

Mkhitaryan showed at the start of the season the sort of form that brought him to United in the first place and, if Wenger can get that type of play out of him, he may well have a made a very shrewd move on his part.

However, moves in often mean moves out and some of the deadwood at Arsenal severely needs chopping in an overhaul of the club, that seems stagnant in recent times under Wenger. Many of our punters in the bar are hoping that a player like Mkhitaryan can regenerate and rejuvenate the while squad.

With that in mind, our landlord takes a look at two potential players that could move on should the midfielder arrive at the Emirates…

Theo Walcott

Having not really hit the incredible highs many of our regulars expected him to make over the past few years at Arsenal, Walcott still has time to reinvent himself, very much like his former teammate Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is doing at Liverpool under Klopp.

Seems to be wasting away in north London and a move to a side where he’d be the main man could give Walcott a good five or six years of regular Premier League action, something good for both whatever club he joins, as well as his country.

Chuba Akpom

Having played a handful of u23 action this season and the sprinkle of cup games, Akpom doesn’t seem to be in Wenger’s plans for the long-term future. At the age of 22, Akpom should be starting to make waves from himself in the game yet he is barely warming the bench at the Emirates Stadium.

With Arsenal linked with a host of strikers this window, it’s hard to see where Akpom is going to get his chance and can only imagine him to fall further down the pecking order.
