The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern are desperate for Wenger to get his chequebook out and make some huge signings this January.

The January transfer window could prove to be the defining period in Arsenal’s season and play a huge role in defining their future prospects for the next half a decade. Arsenal have failed to cement their place in the top-four so far during the current campaign, much to the concern of the resident Gunners propping up the bar. To add insult to injury for the frustrated supporters, the future of both Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil continues to hang in the balance.

One thing the supporters can be sure about, is that in the event that they lose either of the aforementioned players, they will need replacements of the highest quality to step in and fill the void almost immediately.

If they fail to adequately replace the quality departing from the club then Arsenal will be destined for a period of mediocrity whilst they rebuild their squad.

However, Arsenal need to strengthen their squad from back to front regardless of who departs the club in the coming months, so the supporters will be pleased to learn that they have signed young Greek defender, Konstantinos Mavropanos.

But Arsenal will need to sign at least a couple of players who can immediately slot into the starting eleven if they wish to harbour any realistic hopes of qualifying for the Champions League this season.

With that being said, here are two players Arsenal should be pursuing as well as Mavropanos this month…

Riyad Mahrez

Riyad Mahrez is undoubtedly one of the most devastating attacking talents in the Premier League, and it seems it will only be a matter of time before one of England’s top clubs prizes him away from Leicester City.

The Algerian’s ability to glide past opponents and create plenty of opportunities for his teammates in the final-third make him an ideal candidate replace Sanchez at the club.

So far this season, Mahrez has 8 goals and 8 assists from 24 appearances in all competitions, and that fine record is likely to improve within a stronger outfit.

Considering Mahrez’s ability, it is unlikely that Arsenal will be able to secure his signature with competition from Premier League rivals, but they must do everything they can to ensure they fend off interest from elsewhere.

Julian Draxler

PSG’s German sensation has enjoyed plenty of football in a variety of positions under Unai Emery so far this season, but he is yet to establish himself as a first-team regular.

With the World Cup little over 6 months away, Draxler will be keen to impress Joachim Low and secure a place in his starting eleven for Germany’s opening fixture against Mexico in June.

Regular first-team football will give Draxler the greatest chance of achieving his international ambitions, and a move to Arsenal could give him exactly what he needs at this stage.

Although it would be a tall order to lure him away from Paris, Arsenal should make a huge effort to sign a player who is more than capable of setting the Premier League alight with his performances.
