Liverpool fans here in the Tavern are keeping a vested interest in the World Cup at the moment, as they cast their eyes over key men like Bobby Firmino and Mo Salah, who has recovered in time from his devastating Champions League final injury to take part.
The Reds and their manager Jurgen Klopp will be hoping to build on what has already been an excellent start to the summer, with the signings of Naby Keita and Fabinho adding much needed depth and ability to a squad which isn’t too far away from being a contender for the title already.
Indeed, our landlord here in the Tavern thinks the club can challenge Man City with a few top buys, and one player he thinks could have a big impact with the club is Borussia Dortmund winger Andriy Yarmolenko, who is valued at £20.7m by Transfermarkt.
A capture for the German club after an impressive few years with Dynamo Kiev, the flying Ukrainian winger will sadly not be in Russia this summer with his country, but he is still a player with bags of ability.
While Liverpool do have Mo Salah and Sadio Mane in wide positions, there is a lack of depth if either are missing, and Yarmolenko could slot into this gap with ease.
A player with rapid pace, and someone who has the ability to put any defence in Europe on the back foot, he would be a shrewd addition to the Liverpool cause if Klopp can convince Dortmund to part ways.
Reds fans what do you think? Good signing? Let us know in the comments!
