While much has been talked about Manchester City tightening up at the back this summer under new boss Pep Guardiola, it is easy to forget that the Sky Blue’s are already thoroughly in the process of improving their firing line too.
City were the League’s top scorers last campaign – having notched 71 times in 38 games – however the total was still disappointing considering the club having surpassed that title in both of the previous tow seasons – scoring 83 in 2014/15, and eclipsing the century mark with 102 goals during the title winning 2013/14 campaign.
With their title rivals having already began to bolster their attacking options this summer, it has become more vital than ever that City do the same if they wish to push for the Premier League title once again next season.
Ibrahimovic and Mkhitaryan have joined United, Batshuayi has joined Chelsea and Ahmed Musa has joined Leicester – and there is still more business to do: their rivals mean business.
The signing of Spanish attacking midfielder Nolito was a signal of intent for things to come this summer at City, and fans will be excited at the prospect of the former Celta Vigo man at the Etihad with the star having had an impressive last campaign and Euro 2016 with Spain.
But who else will join him? Could Guardiola’s front 4 look as dangerous as this next season? Our fans at the Transfer Tavern certainly hope so…..
Nolito
As mentioned, Nolito joined the City revolution this summer having had a fantastic season for Celta Vigo in which he scored 17 goals and provided 8 assists for his team-mates too.
The Sky Blue’s pipped both Barcelona and Arsenal to the coveted star’s signature, and hope the 29-year-old can bring creativity both from out-wide and through the centre.
Sergio Aguero
When fit, Aguero is one of the most deadly finishers in England, if not the world.
And that is the key – when fit. If Guradiola can keep him in good knick then he has one of the most prominent forwards in the game at his disposal.
The injury plagued forward has managed 136 goals in 208 appearances for City which is far more than one every two games, and has already surpassed the 250 goal mark for his entire club career at 28 years of age.
Kelechi Iheanacho
It may be the Nigerian youngster’s time to shine next season, having been bought into the spotlight last season by Manuel Pellegrini in astounding fashion.
Boasting a better goal:minute ratio than Cristiano Ronaldo and Luis Suarez with one every 81.3 minutes, Iheanacho bagged 14 times last season in mostly cameo appearances to announce himself to the Premier League.
Leroy Sane
Son of former Senegal striker Souleyman Sane and Olympic medal-winning Regina Weber, Sane was born to be a sportsman. Fast, strong, athletic and with an eye for goal, the German attacker has attracted attention from some of the biggest clubs in Europe over the past year, none more so than City.
The wideman scored 9 goals last season and added 6 assists, and certainly has only room to improve at the ripe age of 20. Guardiola knows him well from his time in Germany, and will hope he won’t be Germany’s answer to Raheem Sterling.
