There is few things we like more than discussing our dream line-ups for our clubs, or our favourite strike partnership that we could make if age was no factor – and the Manchester United fans are no different.
They discuss what it would have been like to have George Best in the same side as Cristiano Ronaldo or Robin Van Persie up top with Denis Law and they like to talk about their young players too.
United have a history of producing class young players. The Class of ’92 is the best example of this with Ryan Giggs, David Beckham, Paul Scholes, Nicky Butt and the Neville brothers coming through to represent the team they support.
United fans want to see a handful of players like that come through again and that got our landlord thinking. Who would make a five-a-side team of the current crop of United youngsters? Here’s who came up…
Joel Castro Perreira
Perreira helped captain the under-21 side to the title last season and has been at the club for four years.
He’s by some distance the best young ‘keeper United have, and would walk into this five-a-side team calling on his experience that he also has from playing in the lower leagues on loan.
Timothy Fosu-Mensah
Fosu-Mensah has made a number of appearances for United already in his young career and will be hoping for far more in the seasons to come.
His speed and power make him a nightmare for strikers to get beyond and in coming from the highly respected Ajax academy, United know they have a potentially top drawer player on their books.
Cameron Borthwick-Jackson
Cameron Borthwick-Jackson is seen as a versatile player at the moment but will surely specialise in an area once he gains experience.
He can be used as a holding player but is already learning to be a left-sided centre-half or full-back and that is where we would expect to see him in the future.
He’d get into this five-a-side team with ease because of that.
Andreas Pereira
Pereira joined from PSV in 2012 and is one of the most exciting young talents at the club.
He likes to operate in the central areas and could be a real hit for United in years to come if he gets his chance under Jose Mourinho.
He’s made a handful of appearances for the senior side already and has a goal to his name too.
Marcus Rashford
It’s easy to forget but Marcus Rashford is actually under-21 and so would definitely lead the line for this five-a-side team.
He has pace to burn, is a lethal finisher and has shown that he isn’t scared of any situation so playing in such a scenario would be an absolute doddle for him.
