Manchester City supporters in the Transfer Tavern are hoping that their objective of winning silverware is achieved following a trophyless season.

Pep Guardiola’s first season as Manchester City manager failed to fulfil expectations. Having conquered Spain with Barcelona, and emulating that success in Germany with Bayern Munich, many anticipated that the 46-year-old would do the same in England. It appeared as if he would do exactly that, having won ten successive games at the start of last season – then the cracks began to reveal themselves as their title bid derailed in dramatic circumstances.

Having failed to taste success in any of the cup competitions either, the Citizens will be hopeful that Guardiola can orchestrate a season adorned with trophies. To accomplish this goal, City must remain active in the transfer window. Having already announced the signings of Ederson and Bernardo Silva, the club is primed to welcome new recruits. Our landlord has chosen three defenders that City should target this Summer.

Marc Bartra

The 26-year-old could prove to be an intriguing proposition for the Citizens, having already played for Guardiola while at Barcelona. Bartra excelled in his first season with Borussia Dortmund, making 31 appearances for the German side.

His passing ability is marvellous – a classic example of a player who has benefited from Barcelona’s style of play. Additionally, his tackling and blocking skills are his primary attributes.

Joanthan Tah

Another player that Manchester City should be targeting is German prodigy, Jonathan Tah. During his short career as a senior professional footballer, the 21-year-old has testified his status as one of the most promising prospects that Germany can display.  In 71 games for Bayern Leverkusen, he has asserted himself as one of their most influential and treasured players.

Tah’s ability to retrieve possession of the ball is frankly terrific, and he’s highly regarded for his measured approach to his defensive duties. His presence would notably augment the quality of Guardiola’s defence.

Jérôme Boateng

Since departing Manchester City in the Summer of 2011, Boateng has ascertained his status as a world-class player. The German international has made 227 appearances for Bayern Munich, forging his reputation as a mainstay in their defence. It might be fanciful, but Guardiola should seek to reunite Boateng with his former club.

His concentration is exemplary, and the former Citizen is regarded for his tremendous passing ability. The 28-year-old will be one of the signings of the summer if Guardiola decides to make his move.
