Christian Pulisic’s name is on the lips of a lot of fans at present, and with good reason. The American is one of the most talented players currently in Europe, and Borussia Dortmund are lucky enough to have him on their books.
That’s something that a few Premier League giants are eager to change, though, with the Mirror reporting on interest from both Liverpool and Chelsea.
Jurgen Klopp, then, has a big decision to make. He won’t want to lose Pulisic without a fight, but at the same time, given his estimated cost of £65 million, the Reds must weigh up whether a deal is worth pursuing.
With that said, here are 2 pros and 2 cons to Liverpool landing Christian Pulisic…
There’s no doubting Christian Pulisic’s quality, that much is certain.
The American has impressed in the Bundesliga over the last few years, and all whilst still being a teenager.
In particular, his pace and technical ability make him a real threat down the flanks, and he’s always looking to drive towards goal and make an impact going forward.
In truth, he’s probably one of the best teenagers in European football at the moment, and his quality, simply put, cannot be doubted.
However, whilst there is no doubting his quality, there is also no doubting the quality of the Liverpool squad.
Jurgen Klopp’s team needs further improvement, that’s without doubt, but does it need anything else going forward.
Amidst the likes of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Xherdan Shaqiri and Robert Firmino, there is no shortage of talent going forward at Anfield.
Pulisic, then, may find game time hard to come by, and that brings the need for this move into question.
Would Liverpool be able to better spend their money elsewhere?
That said, whilst Christian Pulsiic may find minutes hard to come by initially, there is no doubting his long-term potential.
As mentioned, he’s still a teenager, and so he’s probably got another 5-6 years in which he’ll continue to develop and improve every single week.
Liverpool, then, would be investing in potential, and that’s something that has often worked wonders in the past.
Sure, for the sort of money that Liverpool will be spending, Klopp would likely want an immediate impact – but long-term planning is important too.
Despite his clear talent, though, he is still relatively unproven.
He’s been decent in Germany, but he’s hardly set the world alight, and the American still clearly is a developing player.
A move to Liverpool would be a significant step up, and he’s not just a level below some of Klopp’s regulars – he’s several levels below them.
Only the best can play at Anfield, and Pulisic isn’t there yet.
