More recently, the 26-year-old has been dominant, registering more duels and aerial duels won than any other Liverpool defender. The signing of Van Dijk showed a real statement of intent from Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool as a number of pundits made it clear that the eccentric German manager had to bolster his defence if his team were to realistically compete for silverware in England.
The Kopites propping our bar up have been delighted with the defensive performances their side’s been showing, conceding just once in their last five games, a Michail Antonio strike in the Reds 4-1 demolition of West Ham. Our resident Reds will be hoping that Van Dijk and the rest of Liverpool’s in-form defence can provide a solid foundation on Saturday as they travel to Old Trafford looking to usurp Man United in second place in the Premier League table.
