Southampton fans in the Transfer Tavern were bemoaning another Premier League defeat for their side following the Saints’ 2-1 reverse at Stoke City.
Mauricio Pellegrino’s men went into their clash with the Potters on Saturday off the back of just one victory in their preceding four Premier League matches, and they were unable to get back to winning ways thanks to goals from Mame Biram Diouf and Peter Crouch for the home side.
Maya Yoshida did equalise for the Saints but it wasn’t enough to prevent a third league defeat of the campaign, leaving Pellegrino’s men 12th in the division ahead of this fortnight’s international break.
Ultimately, a lack of goals has been Southampton’s problem this season with just four from their opening seven matches, yet they may well be looking to solve that in January as recent reports suggest that they are seeking a reunion with Arsenal forward Theo Walcott.
The 28-year-old left St Mary’s back in 2006 to move to the North London outfit, but has struggled for regular gametime at the Emirates Stadium in recent times, failing to start any of their seven Premier League matches so far this term.
And when everyone is fit at Arsenal, it’s difficult to see where Walcott earns regular first team football, and as such Southampton are reportedly looking to bring the England international back in January in a bid to bolster their own attacking options, as well as Walcott’s own World Cup hopes.
And news of a possible return for the 28-year-old has stimulated quite a response from Saints supporters on Twitter, and it’s fair to say that they are split about a potential move…
Would be a good attacking signing but would have to get those wages down

Is he the answer tho?

30k a week down from 150k or something silly. I’d be happy with that. #WelcomeHomeTheo

Not exactly known for goals, but he can run quickly! Not really what is needed

Walcott is exactly what we’re missing, would be a top, top signing. #saintsfc

So we’ve the worst shot/goals ratio in the @premierleague & we’re going to sign Walcott when @chazaustin10 is on the bench!#saintsfc #Doh! https://t.co/F2zRuTp2Co
