This summer it looked to everyone like Tottenham would have to standback and let their star defender, Toby Alderweireld depart the club. However, the Lilywhites are putting up a fight to get the best deal out of him and according to The Daily Express Jose Mourinho’s United will be coming back in for the Belgian with a £50 million bid this week.

Considering the Premier League underwent a huge shakeup when Virgil van Dijk joined Liverpool for £75 million, it would be a huge shock if Tottenham and Daniel Levy accepted £50 million for their Belgian defender. Levy has developed a reputation for being a nightmare to negotiate with over the years, squeezing every last penny out of the players he sells and Alderweireld will be no different.
For a long time, it looked like the club’s would come to an agreement that Anthony Martial would be going to Spurs whilst Alderweireld went to Old Trafford. It now looks like the Red Devils won’t be selling Martial to a direct Premier League rival, which begs the question as to why they think they have a chance of signing Alderweireld from Tottenham. The Belgian will have interest from clubs all over Europe and with big money being thrown around this window it would be no shock to see Spurs cash in and see the 29-year-old go abroad.

From these tweets alone, it’s clear that the Spurs fans will be extremely shocked if Alderweireld goes to United for just £50 million.
