Tottenham Hotspur kicked off their Premier League campaign with a win against Newcastle on Saturday and a lot of fans would have been hoping that their U23 side could do the same against West Ham in the Premier League 2. However, it wasn’t to be and after being 1-0 up after half an hour, they found themselves 3-1 down ten minutes into the second half.

Young Sam Shashoua gave Tottenham the lead early on when he curled in a delightful effort from around 25 yards following a corner but from the moment the Lillywhites took the lead, The Hamers put the pressure on. The updates on the game were few and far between and Spurs fans had a nervy wait after being told on 33 minutes that it was still 1-0. Then, the news came after 55 minutes that West Ham had scored a flurry of goals to make it 3-1.
This sort of collapse could very easily have happened on Saturday with the seniors against Newcastle but Mauricio Pochettino’s side were able to ride their luck as The Magpies hit the woodwork twice and were unable to find a much-needed equaliser for 2-2. Unfortunately, that simply wasn’t the case in the U23 game and Wayne Burnett’s’ side fell to an opening game defeat.

The Spurs fans are far from happy with their youth side’s collapse and will be hoping the U23s can put it right in their next game on Friday against Liverpool.
