Hugo Lloris is one of those players this season who has come in for endless stick from his own fans, and from football fans in general for that. It was just over a week ago he dropped the ball into Toby Alderweireld for a costly own goal at Anfield, yet last night he redeemed himself with a crucial penalty save against Manchester City.
13 – HUGGGGGOOOOO! Another huge penalty save from the skipper as he denies Aguero from the spot!!!

Lloris has now stepped up and saved his last three penalties that he’s been faced with, and yesterday was certainly the biggest one of the three. Against Leicester City, the Frenchman kept out Jamie Vardy, before a North London Derby clash saw him deny Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from 12 yards. Yesterday was a bit of justice, though, as barely anyone believed the City penalty was genuine.
The referee, Bjorn Kuipers, is one of the best in Europe, yet the fans could not believe he’d been convinced to give this penalty. Danny Rose was just five yards away from Raheem Sterling when he slid in to block the City man’s shot, and the fact that it hit his arm when he was on the fall was unavoidable. With that injustice, it was up to Lloris to restore order, and whilst Sergio Aguero’s penalty was woeful, it still needed saving.

The Lilywhites are indebted to Lloris for his incredible penalty heroics and will be desperate for him to step up next week at The Etihad.
