Tottenham fans took to Twitter yesterday to share their delight at seeing Foyth start

Tottenham have had a funny season so far. The Lilywhites have had a huge amount of injuries that has seen Mauricio Pochettino have to shuffle his pack more than he would have wanted to. However, his fringe players have stepped up and Juan Foyth, in particular, has shown just what he can do when given a starting role.

Foyth made his debut last season in the Carabao Cup when Barnsley came to Wembley and lost 1-0 in the third round. From there, the young defender only featured in the domestic cups and in The Lilywhites’ dead rubber Champions League group game at home to APOEL. However, this season, the Argentine has already played in three Premier League games and has shone for Tottenham, showing that Poch was right to trust him.

Against Chelsea yesterday the youngster played superbly well alongside Toby Alderweireld at the heart of the Spurs’ back four. It was a huge statement of intent from Pochettino as well, seeing as the returning Jan Vertonghen was on the bench, that he even started with Foyth. The Argentine easily could have been rested for what was a huge game with either Eric Dier or Vertonghen slotting in. As it happened, every Spurs fan was delighted that Foyth started and they’ll be hoping he can play a lot more games over the next few months.
