Last weekend against Aston Villa, Jan Vertonghen was dropped from the Tottenham squad completely as the Lilywhites recorded a 3-1 win in their opening fixture, and the Belgian only made the bench against Manchester City.

Instead of Vertonghen, the fans had to get behind a centre-back pairing of Davinson Sanchez and Toby Alderweireld. The pair are more than capable and dealt with a Manchester City onslaught well, playing their part in the 2-2 draw.
However, the fans, as you will see in the tweets below, were absolutely baffled as to why Vertonghen wasn’t given a place in the starting eleven. After being dropped against Villa it prompted Jermaine Jenas to claim he wouldn’t be surprised if Vertonghen was to leave the club in the next few weeks, via BBC, although it’s not something the fans will be pleased with judging off these tweets:

The fans, going off the tweets above, will not be happy if Vertonghen is sold and will be keen for him to be back in the starting eleven against Newcastle United next week.
