Tottenham: Journalist drops significant Antonio Conte claim

London Stadium, London, Britain - August 31, 2022. Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte before the match.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte is fully focused on seeing through his job in the Premier League despite being linked with an exit, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The Lowdown: Juventus latest

The 53-year-old’s contract in the capital is set to expire at the end of the season, and having not yet discussed the possibility of extending his stay, his future remains uncertain.

Recent reports have suggested that his former side Juventus want him back to replace the under-pressure Massimiliano Allegri, with the Italian claimed to be open to a Serie A return, causing further concern for the Lilywhites.

The Latest: O’Rourke’s comments

Speaking to The Transfer Tavern, O’Rourke insisted that whilst Conte does have an existing connection with Juventus, he is more than happy to continue at Spurs. He said:

“Due to the links between the two, it’s a club that you would think would pull at the heartstrings of Antonio Conte.

“Right now, there’s not many other clubs in the world that would tempt Conte to leave Tottenham, maybe the likes of Real Madrid or something like that might be one but he’s managed some of the top clubs in Europe already so I think he’s fully committed to Spurs right now and I think he wants to see the job through there.”

The Verdict: New deal deserved

Fabio Paratici will know how much of a positive impact Conte has had since his arrival last November, so offering him a fresh contract should be a no-brainer.

The Lecce-born coach has won 27 and drawn seven of his 45 games in the dugout, losing just seven and averaging 1.96 points per match (Transfermarkt).

Conte is also responsible for Spurs’ reintroduction to the Champions League, and with a new-look squad, he’s more than capable of guiding his team to some silverware come the end of the season.
