Tottenham: Journalist reacts to Google talks

Tottenham-Hotspur-Stadium

Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London, Britain - October 12, 2022. Tottenham Hotspur players walk out onto the pitch.

Tottenham Hotspur agreeing a deal with Google for the stadium’s naming rights would be ‘positive news’ for the Premier League giants, according to reliable journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The Lowdown: Spurs enter talks with Google

Last month, the Lilywhites announced that they had created an official partnership with Coca-Cola, with top-flight rivals Liverpool also jumping on the bandwagon on the exact same day.

The Athletic have now also revealed that the club are in talks with Google over naming rights for the 62,850-capacity ground, three-and-a-half years after moving into their new home back in 2019.

The Latest: O’Rourke’s comments

Speaking to The Transfer Tavern, O’Rourke insists that Tottenham would be taking a huge step in the right direction by completing this deal:

“It would just increase Spurs’ commercial viability as well if they can get a big name like Google to become the naming rights.

“It obviously bring lots of extra revenue into the club as well, which Spurs fans I’m sure will be hoping can go towards the transfer kitty for Antonio Conte.

“So yeah, it can only be positive news for Tottenham.”

The Verdict: Massive coup

Tottenham landing this deal with Google would be a massive coup for Daniel Levy and Co, who have had to be patient in attaching a partner to the ground given the financial impact of the pandemic.

Not only does the stadium play host to some world-class Premier League and Champions League football fixtures, but also to some of the biggest NFL, boxing and rugby matches.

These negotiations sound hugely exciting, and it sounds as though it won’t be long before Spurs are announcing yet another major off-field deal.
