Our landlord explains how they are monitoring Everton’s James McCarthy as transfer speculation emerged after he was left out of the Everton squad on New Year’s day.

The Republic of Ireland international was left out of the squad against Hull City to protect his hamstring injury but this allowed speculation to grow that he is leaving Everton.

Spurs are apparently aware of the midfielder’s frustration at the lack of talks over a revised contract.

Since joining from Wigan Athletic in 2013, he played a pivotal role in Roberto Martinez’s successful 2013/14 season and it is believed he was going to be rewarded for his strong performances but nothing has materialised as yet.

Mauricio Pochettino however has also noticed his influential performances and it is clear that he would have no problem in offering the midfielder a lucrative deal.

The Spurs boss is looking to reshape his squad and the Everton player would suit his pressing style seamlessly, so should McCarthy want the move, it could easily materialise according to our regulars.
