Writing for the Daily Express, journalist Stuart Ballard has tipped Spurs to snap up free agent Ezequiel Garay as an alternative to Joe Rodon.
Garay, who was released by Valencia in the summer, could sign for Tottenham outside the usual transfer window due to his non-club status. The player already has a relationship with Jose Mourinho from their time together at Real Madrid.
The ex-Real Madrid defender has no shortage of accolades playing on the biggest stages in Europe, having represented the Galacticos, Benfica, Zenit St Petersburg as well as Valencia in the Champions League (WhoScored).
Impressing over a long but star-studded career, the 33-year-old has also amassed 32-caps for Argentina, and Ballard has tipped Spurs to make a move.
The journalist has pinpointed him as a standout option in the free agent market as a potential quick fix. Mourinho knows the 6 foot 2 star very well from his time at the Bernabeu, a factor which could bridge negotiations.
Even though there are ‘plenty of strong options‘ currently available on a free deal, Ballard claims the South American is certainly a standout.
Should Mourinho move for Garay?
Suffering a cruciate ligament injury last season before being released, his fitness could be an issue, but the veteran has also been lauded as a ‘powerful‘ asset in the past and one who ‘never gets flustered‘.
Despite being a quick fix, Garay comes as a viable alternative for now and one with proven experience on football’s biggest stages.
