Taking to Twitter, reliable transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has shared an enticing update by Bayern Munich president Karl Heinz Rummenigge on David Alaba – with the Bundesliga magnate claiming ‘maybe he’ll join a new club‘.
Alaba, out of contract at the end of this season, is still yet to sign a new deal with talks currently up in the air – coming as he has been tipped to join Spurs by sections of the media.
Alaba hint dropped as Spurs tipped to move
Possessing a wealth of experience at the top level, chairman Daniel Levy could be tempted to make a move in January given his contract situation – with the upcoming winter window coming as last chance saloon for Bayern Munich to sell the player for profit.
Beyond that, he will be free to talk to other clubs as a free agent – and Rummenigge has now dropped a potentially enticing hint that moving away is a strong option for the ‘phenomenal‘ defender.
Jose Mourinho failed to land a star centre-back in the summer, with talks over a deal for Serie A colossus Milan Skriniar breaking down due to a difference in valuation.
Antonio Rudiger was another name linked with a move to Tottenham, but Levy eventually pulled out all the stops on a last minute move for Joe Rodon.
Transfer Tavern take
Given Rodon is seen more as one for the future, this update surrounding Alaba, who has been touted as a really good option for Spurs come January, may be music to some supporters’ ears.
The Austrian international would certainly provide strength in depth, and it could be a smart signing as Mourinho aims to bring silverware back to north London for the first time since 2008.
