Speaking on Tottenham’s potential transfer plans, quotes via the Daily Express, Glenn Hoddle has tipped a surprise swoop for Southampton star James Ward-Prowse despite their strength in midfield depth – coming after Mauricio Pochettino made his love for the Englishman well and truly known.
Ward-Prowse has impressed for the high-flying Saints this season, who currently sit sixth in the Premier League table – with the 26-year-old starting all 17 games under Ralph Hasenhuttl.
Ward-Prowse tipped by Hoddle
In that time, the homegrown ace has managed four goals and four assists – becoming a crucial component of Southampton’s team.
Hoddle has now tipped Spurs to sign Ward-Prowse, indicating that the Lilywhites are missing a creative midfield player in the mould of former star Christian Eriksen.
He claims that the midfield dynamo arguably fits the bill for Spurs and could slot in effortlessly beside summer signing Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in front of the back four.
When asked what kind of signing Tottenham should land, Ward-Prowse was tipped as a real candidate.
“I have said it before,” explained the pundit.
“I do not think Jose would like him but the lad at Southampton, James Ward-Prowse, would be a major asset. Him and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg would be a nice balance.”

Despite Jose Mourinho possibly having reservations, former Tottenham gaffer Pochettino certainly rates him – explaining to ESPN, via Football Insider, that Ward-Prowse is a ‘fighter’ whilst revealing his admiration.
Valued at £22.5 million by Transfermarkt, it remains to be seen whether Spurs could lodge a pursuit, but only time will tell in the often unpredictable January window.
