Back in the summer transfer window of 2017, Everton sealed a big-money deal to lure Gylfi Sigurdsson to Goodison Park.
The Iceland international had been playing his football at fellow Premier League club Swansea City in the years prior to his move to Merseyside, with the attacker playing as big a part as any in keeping the Swans in the top-flight during his time in South Wales.
Yet Toffees owner Farhad Moshiri sanctioned a £45 million deal to bring him to Goodison Park a little over a year ago, and it’s fair to say that Everton fans on Twitter were hugely excited about the signing, and indeed expecting a lot from the 29-year-old…

And while the Toffees embarked upon a testing season last term, and it indeed took Sigurdsson some time to get into his stride, the former Tottenham midfielder is starting to deliver the goods for Marco Silva’s side.
Ultimately, Sigurdsson was one of three number tens former boss Ronald Koeman signed last summer, with Wayne Rooney and Davy Klaassen also acquired by the Dutchman, yet it was the 29-year-old who often got the nod in that role such was his efforts for Swansea in the years earlier.
Yet it took until the end of November for the Icelandic star to bag his first goal for the club, and while a few more followed in quick succession before the turn of the year, he eventually finished last season with just four Premier League goals to his name.
However, Everton fans could see that Sigurdsson was growing in influence as the campaign wore on even if that didn’t translate into contributions, yet that influence, and indeed contributions, have been evident in the early stages of this term.
The 29-year-old laid on an assist in the 2-2 draw at Bournemouth back in August before netting in defeat to West Ham last month, but it was last weekend in their 3-0 win over Fulham in which Sigurdsson really delivered as, although he missed a penalty, he scored two excellently executed goals to help Silva’s men return to winning ways.
Thus, it looks as though the Iceland international is slowly but surely beginning to deliver on a more regular basis for Everton now after a year settling in at the club, thus proving that those Toffees supporters on Twitter last year were right to get excited and indeed expect a lot from the 29-year-old’s arrival.
