The Everton fans in the Transfer Tavern tonight will be mostly happy with their season so far after a very impressive summer window.
According to reports from the Daily Mail, Everton are planning a January move for FC Porto’s captain Ivan Marcano.
The 30-year-old’s contract expires next summer which means, if he isn’t offered a new one, he will be free to talk to other clubs about a move following the expiration of the contract.
Ronald Koeman had a busy and expensive summer as the Everton boss brought in a total of nine new players including club legend Wayne Rooney, Michael Keane, and the £45 million rated Gylfi Sigurdsson.
The report suggests that Koeman wants Marcano to provide cover for his defence as they look set for a busy season after qualifying for the Europa League group stages.
Everton return to action, following the conclusion of the international break, this Saturday as they host Premier League runners up from last season Tottenham at Goodison Park.
The Landlord’s Verdict
Koeman has had Everton playing a three-back formation this season, as every man and his dog seems to be doing.
The only problem with this is the fact that Everton only have four fit centre-backs available to them now with Ramiro Funes Mori out injured.
For this reason, our landlord thinks this would be a sensible move for Everton.
With the sheer amount of football they will be playing this season, more injuries are likely to happen so sorting out the cover for January already is a smart move.
