Everton are a club who really should have a higher stature within English football by now.

With their last trophy coming in an FA Cup triumph over Manchester United 22 years ago, it has been a frustrating period for Everton fans.

Part of that frustration can be put down to some of the signings Everton have made, especially in the last ten years.

Since 2007, Everton have made a lot of questionable signings in their push for another trophy that hasn’t helped their cause.

They seem a shadow of their former selves during this transfer window, splashing the cash on some high-profile names.

But if some of their previous signings are anything to go by, Everton fans shouldn’t get too excited yet.

On that note, here are the four worst Everton signings made in the last ten years.

Royston Drenthe

You’d think that a loanee from Real Madrid would be a young prospect in need of first team football.

In Royston Drenthe’s case, the second half of that statement was true.

At 24 years old, Drenthe signed on a season long loan for Everton making an impressive start for the Toffees.

However, that soon turned sour after an ankle injury and then reporting late to training resulted in David Moyes omitting him from his team and the loan spell ending on a negative note.

Denis Stracqualursi

Another loanee who failed to impress during his time at Everton.

Denis Stracqualursi only managed one goal and one assist in 21 appearances for the Toffees.

Everton fans have classed him as a cult hero due to his hard work but the stats don’t lie.

Lars Jacobsen

Lars Jacobsen missed the majority of his first season due to a shoulder injury, so not the best start.

He made his Premier League debut about half a year after joining and went on to play in the FA Cup final.

In total, he made just six appearances for David Moyes’ side which wasn’t enough to keep him around.

Diniyar Bilyaletdinov

In 77 games for Everton, Diniyar Bilyaletdinov only managed nine goals and 12 assists from the left wing.

Given plenty of time to prove himself and work his way into the side, it never quite happened for the Russian.

After two and a half years, he was sold to Spartak Moscow quickly to be forgotten by Everton’s fans.
