Chelsea fans inside the Football Transfer Tavern are preparing themselves for another summer that will surely see the club linked with every player under the sun, and Richard Hookham of Metro has dropped by to reveal the club are taking an interest in Galatasaray striker Burak Yilmaz.
The 27-year-old is unlikely to come cheap, having signed a four-year deal only last summer after completing his move from Trabzonspor. The fact he managed a total of 24 league goals last season means he will cost in excess of £20 million.
His Galatasaray team-mate and Chelsea legend Didier Drogba has reportedly spoken highly of the player to senior Chelsea officials.
“I’m really happy here,” Yilmaz said this month. “I have a long-term contract here. If an offer is put on the table then it’s the club’s decision which will matter, not mine.”
Jose Mourinho is expected to make an emotional return to Stamford Bridge next month, and his first task will be to find a striker to provide competition for Fernando Torres and Demba Ba.
He may yet recall Romelu Lukaku to his first team plans after the 19-year-old enjoyed a superb season at West Bromwich Albion that saw him finish as the clubs top goalscorer.
