Manchester United fans here in the Transfer Tavern are getting a little excited for what could be a great January transfer window

With news breaking over the weekend that Robert Lewandowski is angling after a move away from German giants and current Champions Bayern Munich. It’s unsurprising that a host of top European clubs are already throwing their name into the hat as a possible next destination.

Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea, PSG and Real Madrid are among the early favourites.

Lewandowski’s relationship has soured since the back end of last season. It was reported that he was angry with his teammates for not helping him win the Bundesliga Golden Boot, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang winning it by one goal.

Also during Bayern’s pre-season, the Polish international slammed the club’s transfer policy and overall lack of ambition going forward, wetting the appetites of our resident Red Devils.

Whilst Man United are currently 33/1 outsiders with Sky Bet to capture the Polish striker’s signature in January, our punters are discussing the exciting possibility of him joining the Red Devils.

The Dortmund connection

Former teammates at Borussia Dortmund a few years ago, they managed thirty goals between them. With Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s flying start and Lewandowski’s natural striker instinct, together they could blow away defences on a weekly basis.

Mkhitaryan’s assist rate at both Dortmund and Man United in recent years would be the perfect foil and having played in a team together for a season previously before Lewandowski’s move to rivals Bayern Munich, it’ll be a natural telepathy to re-pick back up.

Strength in Depth

Man United could boast a forward squad line of Rashford, Martial, Lukaku, Ibrahimovic and possibly Lewdandowski. It would terrify majority of the Premier league and Europe.

Having such talents, Jose Mourinho wouldn’t be mistaken for thinking he’s in dreamland. Managing them and keeping them all happy would certainly be a task in itself but Man United would be hoping to still be challenging on all four fronts come January, so there’d be plenty of opportunity to rotate, mix and match and play about with.

20-Goal a Season Striker

One of the most feared marksmen in the game, Lewandowski has been prolific at whatever club he’s been at and for his country. A guaranteed twenty goal haul if not more each season. His experience in the Champions League too will benefit a United side making their comeback to the competition.

His ability to score goals is something United have missed in recent seasons with Ibrahimovic taking the much of the weight last year, but with three strikers who can all score goals and have a rich history of scoring goals this season could be a joy to watch for United fans.
