The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern were very excited about their side’s clash with Everton when they first heard the team news. Antonio Conte made a few surprising choices on the night, with the likes of Danny Drinkwater and Charly Musonda both starting. However, it was another Chelsea player that was generating the most excitement – young Welsh midfielder Ethan Ampadu. At just 17-years-old, fans were hopeful that he would get a few minutes, but nobody was expecting him to play the full 90. Antonio Conte continues to surprise fans, though.
On the whole, Chelsea’s performance was solid, and the display of Ampadu was a definite highlight. Controlling the game through the midfield, his fine passing range and his excellent composure were on show on the night, with every fan in the Transfer Tavern very impressed with the youngster. Given how many problems Chelsea have had in the midfield this season, could Ampadu be the solution? It remains to be seen, but the delight of the fans is clear.
