As quoted by Cadena Cope (via The Daily Mail,) Belgium international and Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has said that he never had contact with Real Madrid over a prospective move in the summer.
It’s come as welcome news to our local Chelsea fans here in the Transfer Tavern, who are keen to see their best players stay and help them challenge for the title as they certainly look to be doing this season.
The Blues stopper has helped the club keep multiple clean sheets on the bounce in recent weeks, coinciding with the fact they have changed to three defenders at the back under Antonio Conte and so now it is about consistency, something that will be preserved with Courtois staying.
He was widely touted as Petr Cech’s replacement, though struggled for most of last season and was linked with a move to the Spanish capital earlier this year.
“I never had anything with Real Madrid. I did not see anything published, but I never had any contact with Real Madrid. I am happy at Chelsea”, he said.
”Everything is going very well – it is a great club. There is no reason not to be happy at Chelsea. You never know what will happen in the future, but at the moment I am very well, in a very good atmosphere.”
The Blues are currently second in the Premier League table, a point behind current leaders Liverpool.
