Wanted By Everton, Spurs & Sunderland

He’s keen on a Premier League move, Everton’s David Moyes has reportedly been tracking him for a while, and other clubs – such as Tottenham and Sunderland – have shown interest, but who, on this big reeking turgid circle we call earth, is Stéphane Sességnon?

Currently at PSG, the Benin born Stephane started his football career with Requins de l’Atlantique in the Benin Premier League. After a swift spell, he decided to throw his arms around Paris, specifically the Parisian suburbs, and signed for Créteil in 2004. At Créteil, the versatile midfielder was soon established as a key member of the Ligue 2 side; in his first season he was a vital in avoiding relegation, in his second he helped propel Créteil to their highest Ligue 2 position of 8th. After 68 league games and 10 goals he progressed to Ligue 1 and Le Mans.

Following a slow start, including a dismissal in one of his opening games, Sessegon again cemented his importance to his club, becoming a leading-light in the first team. His stint at Le Mans also exemplified his flexibility; firstly employed as a more defence-minded holding midfield, before advancing into more attacking roles either on the right of midfield or even just behind the striker. Thus, he soon caught the watchful eyes of Europe’s elite

Eventually, though, he was back wandering the streets of Paris; but this time with French giants Paris Saint-Germain rather than Ligue 2 minnows Créteil (‘minnows’ is probably a little patronising but…well, f**k it, the pathetic, wretched, worthless little minnows). The €8million move signalled his personal advancement and he was duly handed responsibility as a principal attacking midfield playmaker. His form both domestically and in European competitions again attracted attention – with a plethora of Premier League clubs thought to be monitoring his progress – but he signed a contract extension only last summer. However, it seems he is now itching to move on after a disappointing mid-table finish, with Sessegon reportedly claiming ‘they know it, I know it’ (pretty definitive then).

A cluster of English clubs are again circling. Everton are thought to be most keen and Moyes is known to have scouted him in the past. As a versatile attacking midfielder, though more of a provider than goal scorer, he would certainly be a useful asset, particularly if he has caught the astute eye of Moyes and past his quality filter. However, Tottenham and Sunderland are also understood to be surveying the situation. If this interest is to be followed up with a transfer bid, PSG will want in the region of £6-8million for the 26-year-old.
