Maurizio Sarri has only been in his job at Chelsea for a few weeks, but his list of jobs is growing as the end of the summer transfer window begins to edge closer. The signing of Jorginho is likely to be huge for the Blues heading into next season, but the club’s focus cannot entirely be on incoming players.
Indeed, the Chelsea squad is filled with talent that, simply put, should no longer be there.
The Blues’ struggles last season were well documented, and it’s pretty clear that a bit of a clearout is needed. Maurizio Sarri’s system isn’t going to suit everyone, and it makes no sense to keep players around that aren’t going to play.
It’s a surprise, then, that a handful of players have remained unaffected by Sarri’s arrival, even at this early stage. Perhaps it’s time for a few to move on.

Danny Drinkwater was a strange signing.
Signed as a means of improving Chelsea’s midfield depth, he has played very little football over the last year, and that is a problem.
A mix of injury issues and a simple lack of quality have left him without a major role in the squad at Stamford Bridge – and perhaps it’s time for him to move on.
With Ruben Loftus-Cheek returning, Drinkwater is no longer needed.
Gary Cahill has arguably been one of the best signings in Chelsea’s recent history.
Signed for a relatively small fee from Bolton, the Englishman has gone on to win practically every single trophy available to him, and that’s not through sheer luck. He’s played a crucial role in every season he’s been at the club, and that’s a testament to his quality.
However, it’s also fair to say that he’s long past his best. He struggled for much of last season, and his lack of technical ability could be highlighted in a system like Sarri’s.
He’s had a brilliant career – but it’s time for him to hang up his Chelsea boots.
