Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern were mostly pleased to see their creative midfielder, Adam Lallana, back from injury to complete his first 90 minutes of the season yesterday evening. However, with a lack of match fitness, the 29-year-old looked rusty in a game where many would’ve expected him to thrive.
Liverpool advanced to this season’s Champions League quarter-finals after beating Porto 5-0 on aggregate, despite drawing 0-0 at Anfield last night. The damage was done in the first leg in Portugal when a devasting Sadio Mane hat-trick, coupled with strikes from Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah, was enough to put the game beyond the Portuguese.
Considering the relevant comfort Liverpool had in the game, out resident Reds, who have been propping up our bar couldn’t help but struggle to criticise the performance of their ex-Southampton midfielder. Adam Lallana will be hoping he can put in more promising displays in the remainder of the season to nail down a place in Gareth Southgate’s World Cup squad.
