West Ham fans in the Transfer Tavern have had little to celebrate this season and they were ordering a fresh round to sink their woes yesterday after worrying news emerged out of East London.
Michail Antonio has been the starring light for the Hammers this season but the England international is said to have become frustrated at the London Stadium, due to a disappointing new contract offered his way and the club’s treatment of his hamstring injury.
The 27-year-old was stated to be eyeing an exit from Slaven Bilic’s side, which reignited speculation he could move across London to Chelsea, but The Daily Mirror states the Hammers have made it clear Antonio is going nowhere this summer.
Whilst Antonio is said to be frustrated with being offered less in wages than January signings Robert Snodgrass and Jose Fonte, a source told The Mirror West Ham are ready to double Antonio’s wages– which are believed to currently stand at £35k-a-week.
“With five years left on his current contract Antonio will be going nowhere. The board have offered nearly double his current package as he is a valued member of Slaven’s squad, but if it’s not a good enough offer for him then he will have to stay on what he’s on.”
Antonio’s current deal, signed in 2016, lasts until 2020 and that leaves the Hammers in a strong negotiating position as they don’t need to cash in, which has led our landlord to state he feels Antonio will remain at the club for next season.
