Reacting to reports that West Ham United could recall Felipe Anderson from his torrid loan spell at FC Porto, supported by reliable source Fabrizio Romano, talkSPORT regular Darren Bent has had his say over the ‘real concern’ for David Moyes.
Anderson has barely featured for Porto since joining them on a temporary spell at the start of this season, playing just 45 minutes of action in Liga NOS this season.
Should West Ham recall Felipe Anderson from his FC Porto loan spell?
Yes, he could work his way into the team
No, we have bigger worries
This severe lack of match action has prompted reports that West Ham could now choose to bring Anderson back to the London Stadium and find an alternative solution for him in January, a development that Bent is clearly troubled by.
Bent reacts to ‘real concern’ for West Ham
In reaction to this major development, Bent has claimed Anderson’s troubles out on loan could be a ‘real concern’ for West Ham.
“That’s always a concern, when you send a player out on loan and they don’t play, I always think: ‘Hmm,’” Bent told Football Insider.
“The club ultimately always takes a player on loan because ultimately they can’t really afford him but to have a player of his quality in our squad or in our team should help us. The fact that Porto have gone: ‘Nah, we’re better off without him in our team,’ and West Ham are looking to recall him, that’s a real concern.
“We know Felipe Anderson has got a lot of ability. When he first came, he was brilliant and there were times he was unplayable, I remember thinking, wow, who’s this guy West Ham have got? To be fair, he’s gone completely the other way, why, I don’t know.”
Transfer Tavern take
What the future holds for Anderson remains to be seen, but GSB could have to find him another move in January if they do bring him back – or potentially hope he can work his way into Moyes’ plans in east London.
As Bent suggests though, it is extremely worrying for a player the club spent so much on to now be totally unwanted at his loan club.
