Liverpool will be desperate to fend off Manchester City’s advances in the Premier League, as the Reds continue to work towards securing an elusive trophy under Jurgen Klopp.
The Reds will turn their attention towards the Champions League tonight as they’re set to welcome German giants Bayern Munich to Anfield in the first leg of their round of 32 tie.
But, it appears as if Jurgen Klopp already has his eye on strengthening in the summer, as according to the Express, Liverpool are interested in signing Ajax star Matthijs De Ligt.
Indeed, the 19-year-old has established himself as arguably the most promising defender in the whole of world football, having already excelled over in Holland and in the Champions League at current club Ajax.
Sadly, the Reds have had to deal with Dejan Lovren’s inconsistencies this season as he’s let the side down a number of times, including a lapse in concentration which allowed Sergio Aguero to score at the Etihad. So, the Reds may finally be able to wave goodbye to their defensive liability if FSG seal a deal for De Ligt, as he would inevitably slot right into the heart of the defence alongside Virgil Van Dijk, with Joe Gomez and Joel Matip waiting patiently.
De Ligt would be the dream partner for Virgil Van Dijk as their playing styles are almost identical, with strength, pace, tackling and calmness on the ball making them both world-class talents. And, the youngster has been touted as the next Van Dijk, so a defensive partnership that involves the pair of them would send fans to dreamland.
He has plenty of potential and is already well on his way to becoming a future star of the game, so a summer swoop may just make Liverpool’s defence unbreachable, with Van Dijk and De Ligt complimenting each other’s game perfectly as international teammates as well.
The pair are in regular contact with each other as they continue to build a strong central defensive partnership on the international stage for Holland. And, Van Dijk had these kind words to say about his team-mate (as per De Telegraaf):
“He is already very far, especially at that age,”
“A good defender, good boy, calm, knows what he wants and hopefully he makes the right choice in his next step.”
“He will be on the list, because they have enough scouts at the club.”
What do you think Liverpool fans?
