The Manchester City fans in the Transfer Tavern have been reacting to the news (from UOL Esporte via City Watch) that their club’s on-loan midfielder, Douglas Luiz, is to be made apart of City’s preseason and assessed by Pep Guardiola. The 19-year-old is currently at Girona and faces three different paths for next season. He either returns to Girona, continues his development at another club or will be integrated into the Manchester City first team.
Pep Guardiola has been known to promote youth players into first team players and first team players into the best players on the planet. His track record is second to none, as a number of players, Lionel Messi for one, can put some of their development down to the coaching and man management of the Spaniard. The next player in line for Guardiola is Brazilian, Douglas Luiz.
Luiz could join the likes of Phil Foden and Oleksandr Zinchenko in the Manchester first team as the youngster looks to make his name in world football. Currently on-loan at Girona in Spain’s second division, the midfielder could be turned to as a direct alternative to Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder, Fred, who Manchester City ended their interest in earlier in the month.
