The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are divided on the prospect of Ross Barkley moving to Stamford Bridge…
The Blues have reportedly had a bid rejected for the midfielder, but with another move likely forthcoming, there is still a very real prospect of the Englishman moving to Stamford Bridge.
Given his poor form for Everton lately, news of Chelsea’s interest has disappointed the fans in the pub – but our landlord thinks that it could end up being a great move.
After all, whilst he has struggled lately, there is no doubting that he really is a top young talent. As a teenager, he was expected to reach massive heights, and whilst he hasn’t quite hit those, that potential is still there. A lack of faith and fitness troubles have really hurt him, but at Chelsea, he would be in a much better place to get over those hurdles – and that could end up being fantastic for his progression.
He’ll also be decent given Chelsea’s current demands. Able to play both in midfield and attack, Barkley would represent a versatile option for the Blues, whilst his homegrown status would also add to Chelsea’s quota in that regard.
The Blues have left it late this summer, and they need to get some bodies in. Barkley might not be the perfect solution, but he isn’t far off – and if Conte can get him firing, Chelsea could be on to a winner.
Rated at £22.5 million by Transfer Markt, Chelsea will need to pay over the odds to get this deal done, but he’ll be worth every penny.
