Since the flow of cash has increased into the Etihad the quality of players has risen and helped the Citizens win two Premier League titles.

The landlord at the Transfer Tavern thinks things can only get better for City fans now that Guardiola is at the helm and spending doesn’t seem to stop as the CFG set their eyes on the ultimate prize: the Champions League.

For all the quality that Manchester City have possessed over the years, City fans at the Tavern would agree that some of the squad that has passed through have not made the grade for the club.

In fact, some players have actually done a better job away from Manchester.

With that in mind let’s look at TWO players that have done better since they have left the Etihad.

Samir Nasri

Samir Nasri has been with City since 2011 when he pushed for a move from Arsenal for £25 million.

Nasri played regularly under Mancini and Pellegrini, though when Guardiola took charge he chose to loan him to Sevilla. His last few seasons at the club were smeared by injury troubles though even when fit Nasri struggled to help City when they finished fourth last season.

Nasri has joined Jorge Sampaoli’s impressive squad that boasts the likes of Ganso, Jovetic and fellow Frenchman Ben Yedder.

The player has definitely found his form, registering a number of assists for the club this season – whilst also improving his general play.

Denis Suarez

Denis Suarez didn’t really have a career at the Etihad when he joined in 2011. He featured in the pre-season though never managed to break into the first team due to the prowess of Aguero and David Silva. This meant that the Spaniard had to spend most his career in England with the reserve team.

In 2013 Suarez signed for Barcelona, but yet was again consigned to the reserve team. A string of good performances allowed Suarez to play first team football whilst on loan for Sevilla.

He enjoyed Europa League success with the Spanish club before signing for Villareal. Again, Suarez was a hit, being the brightest of sparks in their Europa League semi-final loss to Liverpool in the 2015-16 campaign.

Denis Suarez was brought back by Barcelona and now appears as an impact substitute, often coming on for his namesake, Luis Suarez.

City fans at the Tavern often wonder what would have happened if Denis Suarez was given a chance, making their attack-minded team even more potent.
