In a transfer window where they were able to get rid of some deadwood, Everton fans were celebrating hard in the Transfer Tavern over the last couple days of the January transfer window.

Though Ronald Koeman was not able to get rid of all the dust gatherers in his squad, our landlord believes he can be happy with his business – especially, that of the sale of Bryan Oviedo and Darron Gibson to reunite with former Toffee’s boss, David Moyes at Sunderland.

Alongside this, the progression of some promising young players this month, means that our resident Everton fans have a lot to look forward too as they look to be heading in the right direction under Koeman.

The signing of Morgan Schneiderlin from Manchester United was also a major coup and will a much desired quality to the Toffees’ midfield.

As previously stated, there is still some players that Koeman must simply get rid off in the summer but with just two transfer windows under his belt – the squad is starting to take shape and if he can have a good summer transfer window, there is no doubt that the Dutch boss could lead the Blue half of Merseyside to an assault on the top four next season.

With that said, here are TWO players Koeman really should have sold to get ahead of the game in time for the summer transfer window…

Arouna Kone

Our resident Everton fans are devastated that Kone’s move to Crystal Palace fell through at the last minute.

The Ivorian has just gathered dust among the Everton ranks, but this was the last chance that the club had to gather a small fee for a man whose contract is up in the summer.

Though it is more than likely that Kone will leave in the summer, it would have been nice for Everton to be able to recapture some finances from his move but Kone and Palace were unable to agree a deal which will now see him end the season with Everton.

Kone has made six appearances from the bench in all competitions this season and contributed two goals to his teams cause.

Phil Jagielka

The Toffees skipper has found his opportunities limited by being behind Ashley Williams, Ramiro Funes Mori and Mason Holgate in Ronald Koeman’s pecking order for his central defence.

It should also be noted that Everton’s positive resurgence in form has coincided with Jagielka’s exclusion from the team, and the fact that Koeman was happy to let his captain leave in January spoke volumes about how he viewed a man, who has been a loyal servant to the blue half of Merseyside.

Our resident Everton fans will be sad to see Jagielka go, but realise it is for the best interests of both parties.

With all that said, there is no doubt many a glass will be raised in the Transfer Tavern to such a loyal servant.
