Why Liverpool shouldn’t bother in trying to sign this PL rivals’ star

Our Liverpool fans here in the Transfer Tavern are really excited about seeing what their side is going to do in their game against Arsenal later today.

A match that always yields exciting moments, the Reds will be hoping for a big win over the Gunners that could help them in their quest for another strong finish this season.

For sure, though, the Gunners will have designs on a win themselves and so it is certain to be a highly contested affair at Anfield later today.

What will also be interesting, though, is whether Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain starts after being linked with the Reds – and Chelsea – by The Daily Mail.

Indeed, with the England international more and more likely to leave this summer the Reds look a feasible destination for him but there’s a case to suggest it just wouldn’t make much sense.

‘The Ox’ likes to play most of all in central midfield.

For sure, then, he’s not going to play regularly there for Liverpool as the Reds’ midfield needs more powerful, steely players in the centre of the park more than anything right now.

Could he play further forward, then?

Well, yes he could, but, again, he wouldn’t when you consider the superb options the Reds have going forwards.

Indeed, the only thing Liverpool really need in this window now is defensive reinforcements and so they’d be better off prioritising that than signing Oxlade-Chamberlain.
