Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern could only talk about one thing last night as Sevilla were held to a 0-0 draw against Manchester United in the Champions League – Steven N’Zonzi. The 29-year-old is priced at £27 million by the good people over at Transfermarkt and has impressed in Spain since Sevilla signed him from Stoke back in 2015.
The French midfielder spent six years in England with Blackburn Rovers and Stoke City before moving on Spain three years ago. Sevilla currently sit 5th in La Liga with no small part of that down to the dominant ball winning performances of the French international, who has strongly been linked with a move to the Emirates in the past.
N’Zonzi was at it again last night as he put in an impressive performance against Manchester United, helping his side keep a clean sheet against a United side that included: Romelu Lukaku, Alexis Sanchez, Juan Mata and Paul Pogba from the bench.
This impressive showcase of defensive ability had Arsenal fans on twitter purring over the classy midfielder and demanding that their club open the chequebook to bring him to the Emirates.
Arsenal sold fellow Frenchman Francis Coquelin to Valencia in January for an undisclosed fee, leaving Mohamed Elneny and Granit Xhaka fighting to start as Arsenal’s enforcer in front of the back four however neither of them have looked convincing this campaign, leading to Arsenal fans calling for N’Zonzi to be signed.
