The Citizens are in the Transfer Tavern today and with a kind opening day fixture, they look raring to go for the season ahead.
The start of a new Premier League season is quickly approaching and come the 12th of August, Man City will travel down to the Amex Stadium to play Brighton.
Pep Guardiola has had a very busy transfer window so far and has shown no signs of slowing down.
The Spanish manager has a host of world class talent at his disposal.
Unfortunately for some of those players, that means some of them will be relegated to the bench and won’t start the game.
With some of the best in defence, midfield and attack playing their football at The Etihad, someone will always miss out.
With that being said, here are two Manchester City players who really are not guaranteed to start the opening game of the season.
Danilo
The 26-year-old right back recently signed for City for a fee reported to be in the region of around £27 million.
However, only days before that signing City also purchased Kyle Walker for £50 million.
These two will be competing for a space in the side and despite Danilo’s obvious talents, it is hard to imagine Pep not starting the player he paid more money for.
There are no guarantees in the Premier League so Danilo will have to earn his spot in the side.
Yaya Toure
There are no questions of Yaya Toure’s abilities here.
Last season the four-time African player of the year made just 25 appearances in the Premier League after a fall out with Pep Guardiola.
He managed to work his way back into the side after missing the first 11 games of the season but he isn’t getting any younger.
Now aged 34, it is likely he will be used as a very good squad player to make way for younger talent.
