Wolves centre-back Romain Saiss is likely to stay at the club this summer rather than move abroad, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.
The Lowdown: Saiss out of contract soon
The 31-year-old is enjoying a hugely impressive season for Wanderers, starting 27 Premier League matches and helping Bruno Lage’s side sit seventh in the table.
However, he is out of contract at the end of the campaign and yet to agree a new deal at Molineux, with time slowly running out before he becomes a free agent.
A fresh insight regarding the Moroccan has now emerged, though, and it is a positive one from a Wolves perspective.
Will Wolves qualify for the Champions League this season?
The Latest: Journalist expects Saiss to stay at Wolves
The journalist outlined: “I know Saiss has had interest from other clubs all across Europe and outside of Europe as well.
“But I think he wants to stay playing at the highest level and the Premier League is probably the best league to be playing in right now, so that boosts Wolves’ chances of keeping him.”
The Verdict: Huge boost if he stays
Saiss has been such a strong performer for Wolves in 2021/22, with BBC pundit Danny Murphy hailing him as a “tower of strength“, so offering him a new deal and extending his stay seems an absolute no-brainer for the club.
His experience is huge in a team which has several younger figures such as Ki-Jana Hoever, Max Kilman, Pedro Neto and Fabio Silva around him, and he has averaged a monstrous 4.9 clearances per game in the league this season.
No Wolves player has averagesd more in the current campaign, highlighting Saiss’ influence from the back, and there is no reason why he can’t still play at this level for a few more years, given that he has been one of Lage’s best performers in 2021/22.
