Many Wolves fans were heavily critical towards striker Fabio Silva after his side’s 2-1 defeat to Everton on Tuesday night.
The 18-year-old has been underwhelming since his summer move from FC Porto, mainly due to his £35.6m price tag (via BBC Sport), which of course left fans expecting more than what he has offered so far.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have now won just once in their last eight Premier League games and are desperately missing the presence of Raul Jimenez upfront, scoring just eight goals during that timeframe (Fotmob).
The Portuguese tactician has been playing Silva in the hope that he can find some of the spark that his Mexican teammate has always offered in abundance. But once again, he didn’t provide much inspiration for his team on Tuesday.
Per Sofascore, Silva won just one duel, had one less touch during the whole game than goalkeeper Rui Patricio, only had one shot on target and accumulated a pass success rate of just 69% – nine passes.
Against a fellow Europe-chasing side, it is of course a huge disappointment to see a winger who is on the pitch to score and create goals get on the ball less often than the side’s goalkeeper, who would have hoped for a quiet night.
Should Fabio Silva be taken out of the Wolves' firing line?
Unsurprisingly, supporters are beginning to run out of patience for Silva with some suggesting that Nuno should take him out of the team for the time being.
Fans not impressed with Silva
“I don’t care how old he is. You’d think for a £35million player Fabio Silva would show glimpses of what he’s got to offer. I’ve seen nothing that shows he’s gonna be nearly worth £35m. And yes I know he didn’t ask for his price tag #wwfc”
“Cutrone sooner rather than later what’s he supposed to do in 12 mins. I understand silva is young and is for the future but we can’t be carrying players in this league feels like we are kicking off every game with 10 men. #wwfc”
“Silva has mentally gone. He can’t do a thing right. Needs to be taken out the firing line for his own sake. God knows who we play there though. #wwfc”
“Ignore Silva’s age and the price tag, he’s a passenger and shouldn’t be in the eleven, let alone on the left-wing. Not blaming him, he’s just part of the Mendes roulette, but we have to be smarter not to include him. Cutrone starts Saturday #wwfc”
“Silva isn’t ready and recalling Cutrone & Gibbs White isn’t enough to address the lack of goals. I can’t see where goals are going to come from. Saturday is a must-win #wwfc”
“Edged it first but nothing in the second half. Silva really needs to come out of the team. Have to get three points against Albion #wwfc”
