Wolves are reportedly ‘interested’ in signing Freiburg winger Roland Sallai in the January transfer window.
The Lowdown: More firepower wanted
Despite the signing of Matheus Cunha from Atletico Madrid, it seems as if the Old Gold want to bring in more firepower to their frontline in January.
The likes of Coventry City’s Viktor Gyokeres and Atletico’s Joao Felix have also been linked with moves to Molineux, with Julen Lopetegui’s side currently the lowest goalscorers in the Premier League with just ten.
The Latest: Sallai interest
Taking to Twitter, journalist Bence Bocsak has revealed that the Wanderers are one of five teams that are ‘interested’ in signing Sallai in January, and Freiburg want €20m (£17.7m) in order to sanction a move:
“Many clubs are interested in Roland Sallai (25) in January. He switched agencies recently and is open to a move. Lazio, Wolverhampton, West Ham, Sevilla and Fiorentina are all possible destinations. He has 4 G/As in his last 4 Hungarian caps. Freiburg want €20m.”
The Verdict: Get it done?
No Wolves attacker has scored more than Daniel Podence’s three in the Premier League so far this season, which further highlights how much they are struggling in the final third.
He has had a knack for goals from a young age, having remarkably scored more than 100 times in one season for his U13 team.
Years later and Sallai is certainly not afraid to have a shot on goal, ranking in the 83rd percentile for average shots per match of all wingers in Europe’s top five leagues over the past year, while he also boasts a significant aerial threat, ranking in the 94th percentile for aerials won per game (FBRef).
Nonetheless, this could be another shrewd signing by the Old Gold alongside Cunha.
