Williams on Wolves’ radar
The 19-year-old has been on the fringe of Jurgen Klopp’s side over the past 12 months and has made 15 senior appearances since progressing through the Reds’ youth academy.
These outings have helped him secure his first couple of caps for Wales under the watchful eye of head coach Ryan Giggs, who described his contributions as “outstanding” (cited by the Liverpool Echo).
The Times claimed that the Wales international was a target for the West Midlands outfit when Matt Doherty left the club to join Tottenham.
Williams’ attacking displays towards the end of last season caught Wolves’ eyes, as he featured in a squad that went on to win the Premier League. However, the Welshman opted to sign a new five-year deal with the Merseysiders as Nuno Espirito Santo signed another full-back, Ki-Jana Hoever, instead.
Transfer Tavern take
It is interesting to see that Wolves couldn’t attract Williams to the club, despite selling one of their most prized assets to Liverpool in the process.
Despite acquiring Hoever as an alternate option, Wolves will consider themselves unfortunate not to land their man. With that move now off the table, Nuno and his recruitment staff will not be looking back, they will simply put their focus on the upcoming transfer window instead.
