Our Manchester United fans here in the Transfer Tavern today are discussing what players United should have tried a little harder to sign this January window.
Jose Mourinho captured what is possibly the signing of the window in Alexis Sanchez, however many of the punters in the bar feel that United needed one or two more incomings to really start to push for trophies this season.
Still, despite some degree of negativity amongst our more cynical United fans, life is good with Alexis through the door. Indeed, by bringing in Sanchez, it frees up Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford to play down the middle in their preferred positions. It also allows a degree of flexibility within the three, who can all interlink their positions.
While the left-back position seems sorted for now, with Luke Shaw upping his game in recent weeks and the stalwart Ashley Young playing unbelievably in the same position, though would need some strengthening in the long-term. Nonetheless, United fans here in pub feel that the still need something in the midfield, maybe an out and out winger, possibly someone to come in the centre of the park and be the creative box-to-box force when Paul Pogba’s out…
Antonio Candreva

The right-sided winger who currently plays for Inter Milan in Serie A could be an answer for the balance of Mourinho’s team. Many of the fans here feel that United are missing a winger, someone to fly up and down the wing on the left or right. A ridiculously hard worker, the Italy international seems like an archetypal Jose player.
United have always been blessed with wingers and Candreva could be the missing link. Especially with his eight assists in 21 games and an average of three key passes per match he could be the final piece of the jigsaw, he’d have added so much.
Riyad Mahrez

The Leicester City man is a threat in the Premier League and has been for many seasons since the Foxes won the title a couple of seasons back. He has seven assists and eight goals in his 23 appearances in the league so far this campaign, having proved his worth on these shores for the past three seasons or so.
He could also interweave with his teammates to play many different positions and he’s a player our regulars think that could excite the Old Trafford faithful on a regular basis.
