‘Wouldn’t waste the money’ - Liverpool fans question transfer target after poor World Cup display

The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern have been left unimpressed with their club’s transfer target, Nabil Fekir, after his ten-minute cameo off the bench against Peru yesterday. The attacking midfielder was left on the bench for the second game in a row, with the defensive midfielder, Blaise Matuidi prefered over him on the left of France’s midfield three.

The fans were far from impressed with the performance of the Frenchman, who is supposedly desperate for an Anfield move despite the stubborn negotiating from Lyon’s club chairman, Jean-Michael Aulas. The clubs had supposedly agreed on a fee and Fekir had signed on personal terms and recorded an introductory interview before Jurgen Klopp and the Liverpool hierarchy tried to shave a couple of million off the midfielder’s transfer fee.

Now, no one has got what they want. Fekir is still desperate for his move and Liverpool still want him, but Lyon are holding firm. Those at our bar up have started to give up hope on the Frenchman, and when he puts in displays like he did in yesterday’s World Cup group game, it makes things easier for the Reds to get over losing the midfielder. It remains to be seen whether he’ll sign, but as things stand, your average Liverpool fan wouldn’t be too fussed either way.
