The Newcastle fans in the Transfer Tavern were pinching themselves yesterday as they came back from 1-0 down to win 2-1 against Arsenal at St James Park, extending their winning run to four straight games. The win puts them 10th in the table, just one point behind Everton and with a game in-hand over the Toffees.

The club’s heroics either side of the international break has seen them dispatch Southampton, Huddersfield, Leicester and now Arsenal, scoring eight goals and conceding just two in the process. The Magpies propping our bar up are absolutely delighted with their form as the club could be making a late push for a spot in the top eight of the Premier League.
The Geordies’ achievements this season simply would not be possible if it wasn’t for Rafa Benitez incredible job in the North East. The former Real Madrid and Liverpool man has been one of the most successful managers in Europe over the last two seasons, winning the Championship and guiding a below-par Newcastle side to the top half of the Premier League on a lacking budget. There aren’t many managers who could do what the Spaniard has done and the fans will be hoping he’s rewarded with a decent sized transfer kitty in the summer.
