1 in, 3 out: The January business Man Utd simply must do

It seems strange that so soon after their record-breaking summer of transfer business, the Manchester United fans are eagerly anticipating the opening of the January market.

Though Jose Mourinho was handed absolutely monumental funds over the course of the close-season, United’s squad looks far from well balanced during the opening half of the campaign.

Perhaps things haven’t been as bad as the wider press have made out at Old Trafford, though there’s little doubt the self-proclaimed ‘Special One’ could do with some reinforcement.

There’s unlikely to be a huge amount of incomings, though some well-advised additions, as well as clearing out some of the deadwood, could really give the ranks a huge lift.

The Red Devils have picked up so many hangers-on since Sir Alex Ferguson retired amid a flawed transfer policy headed by Ed Woodward, it’s high time Mourinho sorts it out.

With that in mind, here’s a closer look at the January dealings our Man United fans propping up the bar want done.

OUT: Memphis Depay

depay

Despite being handed a number chances by both Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho, the Dutchman has failed to convince at all in the iconic No.7 shirt at Old Trafford.

With so many options ahead of him in the wide attacking areas, surely the Oranje star shall depart in the New Year.

IN: Jose Fonte

Strongly linked with a move to the Theatre of Dreams in the summer, Jose Fonte seems like the ideal short-term fix to United’s defence.

While it must be said that both Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones are impressing in recent weeks, the Euro 2016 winner can be a great tutor to the likes of Eric Bailly.

OUT: Morgan Schneiderlin

Despite his standing as one of the finest midfielders in the league while Southampton, Schneiderlin’s move to United has largely been a disaster.

It seems likely the Frenchman will be allowed to leave just 18 months after joining and it will have little impact on the first-team.

OUT: Ashley Young

young

Though he’s been reliable enough when Mourinho has called upon him this season, there is apparent interest from within the Premier League in regards to Ashley Young.

Should United receive a decent offer for the ex-England man, surely they should snap at it.
