Celtic supporters in the Transfer Tavern breathed a huge sigh of relief last night after seeing their side come to within two minutes of losing their 65-match unbeaten run in domestic competition, yet a late Scott Sinclair penalty earned them a 1-1 draw with Motherwell at Fir Park.

Bhoys manager Brendan Rodgers has yet to taste defeat against Scottish opposition since taking over from Ronny Deila back in the summer of 2016, but Mikael Lustig’s own goal 12 minutes from time gave Stephen Robinson’s side the lead, and put them on course for a famous victory. However, Andy Rose was adjudged to have fouled Callum McGregor in the penalty area two minutes from time, allowing Sinclair to slot home the resulting spot-kick to preserve Celtic’s incredible unbeaten run, and also extend their lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership to four points after Aberdeen were beaten at Rangers.

Thus, there are many relieved Bhoys supporters in the Tavern at present, many of whom are already turning their attentions to their side’s reverse meeting with Motherwell at Celtic Park on Saturday, where they will hope for things to run a lot smoother.

In the meantime though, several of our resident Celtic fans have been discussing their side’s possible business in the upcoming January transfer window, and one name that has cropped up repeatedly is that of Everton’s James McCarthy.

The Republic of Ireland international has managed just one senior appearance for the Toffees so far this term and that came all the way back in October in their Carabao Cup defeat to Chelsea, and he has since failed to make a matchday squad.

Thus, it doesn’t look promising for the midfielder, and several Celtic fans are wondering whether their side should reignite their interest in the 27-year-old, given they reportedly wanted him this time last year.

And were McCarthy to indeed move to Celtic Park, here are TWO other Everton stars who could follow him north of the border in the New Year…

Beni Baningime

Beni Baningime only made his senior debut for Everton last month in their Carabao Cup defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, yet he showed in West London that he certainly belonged on the big stage.

However, just two Premier League appearances have since followed for the 19-year-old, and with new boss Sam Allardyce likely to shake things up at Goodison Park in a bid to move them away from danger, the young midfielder could find minutes even harder to come by.

Yet given Rodgers’ record of giving young players a chance over the years, Celtic could look to secure a loan deal for the highly-rated starlet, in turn giving him the playing time and opportunity to begin fulfilling his incredible talent.

Ademola Lookman

Ademola Lookman made an instant impact at Everton by netting a minute into his Toffees debut in their 4-0 thumping of Manchester City back in January, but the England Under-20 World Cup winner has since struggled for regular gametime.

The former Charlton Athletic forward has since added just 19 first team appearances for the Merseyside giants, of which only seven have been starts.

And with competition fierce in the attacking ranks at Goodison Park, Lookman looks set for another frustrating campaign, which is why Rodgers, renowned for giving young players a chance and getting the best out of them, should seek to land the forward on a loan deal in January, especially with the Bhoys likely to still be in European competition come the New Year.
